On June 1st 2016.. we opened our doors to the public - and man.. has time flown!
Since opening, Ascend Salon's most important core value has been to reduce our industry's negative impact on the environment. As an eco-conscious salon we offer a variety of vegan, cruelty-free, and/or ethically manufactured products for our guests; we take great measures to operate as carefully and consciously as possible - this spans from the very building we operate in to the building materials we used, to the brands we have selected, and everything in-between; and we recycle everything that is possible to recycle.
We began as a Green Circle Salon; collecting and recycling our hair, plastics, aerosol containers, paper products, excess colour, chemicals and used foil. We have recently switched to a new, local company called Style Recycling, who we believe are doing an even better job of keeping our industry's waste out of the landfills and waterways.
Our second core value at Ascend is to be a positive presence in our community by helping to elevate others. We have held several fundraising events for the YES project, and since then we have donated to countless charities, fundraisers, initiatives, local non-profits and local events on an ongoing basis.
Another small way of giving back for us has been to create a unique new platform for local artists to gain exposure, and to provide an opportunity for these pieces to sell at a better rate than traditional gallery settings - we have already sold more than 12 works directly from our walls, and those works are now displayed in private collections across Canada.
David is the man behind the dream, and the lifeblood of Ascend Salon.
Born in Sudbury Ontario, David has been doing hair across Canada for over 20 years. He fell into his profession quite by accident when he took a course in University to
Earlier in his career, David was part of the growth of a now national franchise salon. Later down the road, he was also an educator with Redken. He may be modest, but David is decorated with multiple certifications, awards and accolades, and has traveled internationally to teach. Upon the opening of Ascend Salon, he put his role as a Redken artist and educator on the back burner to be able to grow his business. He misses the excitement of Redken (and the travel!) but his heart resides at Ascend, where he spends his days lifting up his guests and making everyone look and feel their very best.
Having been relocated several times to help build and grow new franchise salon locations, David has been a Penticton resident since 2004, when he was moved here to manage and grow what ended up being his final franchise salon.
In the spring of 2016, it was time for a new adventure, and David opened Ascend!
David specializes in balayage as well as traditional foiling; colour corrections; curly hair; fades; creating fabulous reds, mermaid waves and natural looks; as well as structured bobs and precision cuts. He won't ever brag, but he didn't earn his excellent reputation by accident! *shh, you didn't hear it from us!
David is available Wednesday through Saturdays as well as alternating Tuesdays.
*please note that David typically books at least 4 months in advance.
Robyn is our fun and free-spirited salon manager, as well as David's partner and apprentice. If you've ever phoned the salon or been greeted by the front desk, you've already met her!
Born in North Vancouver and raised in Port Coquitlam BC, Robyn has deep family roots in the Okanagan. She has loved this city all her life and finally was able to relocate her family and call Penticton home in 2012.
Robyn began temping for Ascend in the winter of 2017 and instantly fell in love with salon life, and the hair industry in general. Over the years, Robyn has immersed herself in every part of Ascend; building, maintaining and improving its systems, organizing and scheduling its guests, designing its imagery, researching its retail offerings, developing its programs side by side with David, and anything else that might need doing. In time, she worked her way up to management and in the fall of 2020, Robyn took the leap to happily become a stylist and is now David's registered apprentice! She has become a pillar of the Ascend family, and a driving force in the background that helps David to continue realizing the beautiful dream-turned-reality that is Ascend Salon.
Robyn also happens to be our current local artist on display in the salon. (you can check out her displayed work in the "current local artist" section of our website.)
Robyn is passionate about people; she loves to connect, share stories, laugh and bring joy and humor to everyone she meets, and she looks very much forward to growing, developing and enjoying this most creative and rewarding career.
Born in Edmonton and raised in Calgary, Tiffany had been coming to Penticton her whole life to visit her extended family... so it’s safe to say that her love for this city runs deep. Family has always been very important to her, and after her parents retired to Naramata, Tiffany officially made Penticton home in order to be closer to them.
An artist; art enthusiast and an adventure-seeker at heart, Tiffany has been a stylist for 12 years now. Her love for hair began while working as a receptionist for a high end salon while still in Calgary - the creativity of her coworkers inspired her to eventually dive into the industry head-first! Learning her trade at Penticton School of Hair, Tiffany has taken countless courses – her favourite being ones she gets to travel to attend… and from the sounds of it, she jumps at any chance to travel and experience different cultures. (She is looking very much forward to being able to safely travel again one day soon!)
Tiffany is also an uplifter. Thoughtful; empathetic; patient; she loves nothing more than connecting with people and helping everyone to look and feel their best. Her sweet, fun-loving personality makes connecting with her an easy task, while her vast skillset has her guests’ natural beauty both enhanced and celebrated.
Tiffany loves vivid colours, but also specializes in natural-looking colour; short and medium layered cuts; balayage and her head massages are rumored to melt alllll your troubles away.
Tiffany is available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, as well as the first Saturday of each month.
